Alternative Cape Town Accommodation
Over on our Facebook Page we featured a photo of the awesome aquarium located inside the Berlin Radisson SAS Hotel, but Cape Town is not without it's own spectacular leisure destinations. Here are two of my favourite:
A Loo with a View - Fire and Ice Hotel
This Protea Hotel, located on New Church Street is worth visiting just for a trip to the toilets. No, seriously. They have taken what is usually a 'bog-standard' feature (sorry, I couldn't help it) and made them fun.
The quirky individually-styled unisex bathrooms adjacent to the bar, each have a theme, for example the “Long Drop” toilet made to look like it’s perched on the scaffolding of a tower block, or one where you are surrounded by a studio audience. The toilets are matched in fun by the two themed lifts, a shark cage (oh yeah!) and a mock cable car. Add to this the unusual smoking room (trust me, this room comes with a health warning) and you have only a sneak peak of what is on offer at the Protea Fire & Ice.
No Trashy Trailer Park - The Grand Daddy Hotel
Forget Britney Spears, trailer park trashy does not come more stylish than this! Right in the heart of the city, on vibey Long Street no less, is a hotel that takes camping to a whole new height.
Shiny Airstream trailers sit on the hotel roof of one of Cape Towns most trendy hotels, creating an exclusive little club of their own; plus, each has been designed to a theme with no two the same.
In summer, the leisure area around the trailers becomes an outdoor cinema. There is an air of 'cool' around The Grand Daddy Hotel!
