Halle Berry Dives with Great Whites

Oscar winning actress Halle Berry is adding her famous name to the many who have experienced the thrill of diving with Great White sharks.

The 43-year-old actress is in Cape Town working on upcoming movie, Dark Tide which is due for release in 2011. The plot is sketchy at present, but filming is currently taking place in False Bay, close to seal Island. Halle apparently plays the part of a shark naturalist and documentarian who is reluctant to get back into the water after a shark attack kills her mentor. Halle's character is forced to face her fears and of course, then live happily ever after. Sounds kieff.

But will this potential block buster do justice in changing peoples perceptions about great whites, or just antagonise?

The Save Our Seas Foundation (who do AWESOME work!) is reserving judgment. Representative and local shark conservationist Alison Kock is quoted in the Mail Online as saying 'After reading the script we decided it was not something we would like to put our names to.
'Our mandate is to try to change people’s perceptions of sharks. The first script that we got sounded very much like it had a thriller aspect to it and a personal kind of aspect to it as well.
'But fighting off a shark, or surviving a shark attack - we couldn't see the positive side of that, as much as we tried.'

Lets hope that the exposure given to this species can at least open the debate and encourage further investigation into improving the relationship between man and beast.
