The Annual Hermanus Whale Festival is fast approaching. This year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the only enviro-arts festival in South Africa, with a well-loved spectacle of music, arts and crafts, food and wine, street parades and of course, whales.
The purpose of this five-day extravaganza is recreation and education. Celebrating local artists while watching the Southern Right Whales, and learning more about these incredible creatures. Some added activities include, a night run, a trail run, the Hermanus Whale Festival Classic Bowls tournament, and the Whales and Wheels Classic Car Show.
The festival runs from 30 Sep 2016 – 02 Oct 2016, which is prime whale watching season, and sees the whales coming as close as 50m to the shorelines.
There are several viewpoints along the coast that are ideal for whale watching, however Shark Zone also run whale watching tours which come in either the form of a boat tour or a personally guided walking tour. The boat-based whale watching offers an unbelievably close encounter- a life experience like no other.
